My media week 17/01/10

One of my first posts on this blog attacked Sharon Stone for her idiotic coments about bad karma and an earthquake in China. The tragic events in Haiti this week prompted the infamous Pat Robertson to suggest that Haiti had brought decades of torment on itself by making a pact with the devil to end French rule. Rush Limbaugh then got in on the act by saying:

This [the earthquake] will play right into Obama’s hands. He’s humanitarian, compassionate. They’ll use this to burnish their, shall we say, credibility with the black community – both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country. This is made to order for them.” I have no problem criticising Obama but that is just sick. This is the Guardian article: Don’t give Haitians a penny, says rightwing US shock jock

Spark a Canada blog, radio show, and podcast about technology and culture has an interview with Matt Mason about piracy as a business model. Matt Mason, who is the author of The Pirate’s Dilemma, talks about digital piracy, and how smart businesses are dealing with it.

The Onion has this trademark piece, Gay Teen Worried He Might Be Christian and The Daily Mash has Universities May Be Forced To Cut Media Studies And Hospitality Management. I like the beginning:

Budget cuts will mean Britain’s universities will no longer be able to teach young people how to read newspapers and smile at tourists, it was claimed last night.
